Summer 2026, 20 rising high school seniors participated in Rockingham County’s first-ever Careers Electric™ Pre-Apprenticeship Experience at RCC, an innovative workforce development initiative designed to prepare students for high-skill, high-wage careers in the electrical trades. Through a collaborative partnership between Rockingham Community College, Rockingham County Schools, local employers, and community partners, students earned college credit, received a paid stipend, and completed more than 80 hours of hands-on work-based learning while gaining valuable industry experience. The program showcases the power of education and industry working together to build a strong local talent pipeline, providing students with meaningful career opportunities while helping meet the workforce needs of Rockingham County’s growing economy.

I was expecting to learn how to wire things up, hot, neutral, ground, and all of that. But we dive so much deeper into the information and really learn why we have so many safety protocols and how important electrical is. So I would definitely recommend this program.”
